QUALIFYING YOUR COMMUNICATION SYSTEM

This page was created so you (the owner) may decide whether no not it is in the best interest of your project to integrate the communication work and the electrical specs, or to leave the two separate.

CCI feels the following question and information can help you make this distinction. This is for your analysis only. If you have any questions or comments, please feel free to contact our staff at (501)753-1940 or drop us a line at cci@cciarkansas.net

1. You're installing a new network. Why should you consult a communications company when an electrical contractor could pull in your network and make it work?

A: The specifications and code standards for the conduit and support systems of electrical wiring and communication wiring are not the same. An electrical contractor who is not familiar with communication specifications may improperly install the system that would work, but would it work with the speed of the equipment it's connected to? We can also design an efficient cabling system that would consider your needs now, and in the future with room for growth.

2. Your electrical contractor says they can save you money by pulling you communications wiring at the same time they pull the electrical wiring.

A: Not so. These are two separate systems that need to stay separate to work properly and meet appropriate standards. Electrical current interferes with voice and data transmissions, causing expensive service calls and repairs or even re-installs. A communications expert can make sure all cabling and terminations are correctly installed and tested and meet networking standards. CCI can save you money, we know how and what is really needed to do it right the first time with trained installations.

3. Why is proper design and installation so important?

A: What may work today might not work tomorrow. With higher transmission of data the higher quality of network installation must be.
